Besides the exceptions following General Rule 4, nouns do not take okurigana.

Examples:

Exceptions

(1) The final syllable of the following [18] words is attached as okurigana.

辺あたり　 哀あわれ　 勢いきおい　 幾いくら　 後うしろ　 傍かたわら　 幸さいわい　 幸しあわせ　 全すべて　 互たがい　 便たより　 半なかば　 情なさけ　 斜ななめ　 独ひとり　 誉ほまれ　 自みずから　 災わざわい

(2) Nouns that use the numeric counter つ attach つ as okurigana.

一つ　二つ　三つ　幾いくつ
